Best of the Past Blog Post

Here are the 4 test covered in this post:

Best of the Past
Best of the Past - Geometry
2011 AMC 10 A (problems 15 - 25)
2011 AMC 10 B (problems 15 - 25)

To make everything easier, BOTP questions will be labeled 1 - 10, BOTP - Geo questions will be labeled 11 - 20, AMC 10 A questions will be labeled 21 - 31, and AMC 10 B questions will be labeled 32 - 42.

Amongst the 14 members, I want each of you to write solutions to 14 problems. I know that this number is a lot and you cannot write symbols on this blog, but some students find the blog posts as helpful and even if that number is 1, the blog posts will continue. Here are the assigned problems:

Group G (notice how I don't use A) -> problems 1, 4, 7, 10, ... , 40
Maya Varma
Adiyan Kaul
Alice Yao
Stephanie Shi
Ming Li

Group E -> 2, 5, 8, 11, ... , 41
Christine Park
Vivian Qian
Anindit Gopalakrishnan
Allan Wu
Sanjana Kothuri

Group O -> 3, 6, 9, 12, ..., 42
Julianna Liu
Aishwarya Laddha
Jacky Lee
Christopher Chang

For those students not part of the 14, you can choose the problems assigned to a group and post.

Mathcounts Geometry Post

Remember that this week there will be presentations! For the blog posts, I want you to post every single problem of the practice test of your assigned chapter of the AGMath link. If you have 2 chapters, then you post the solutions for both tests. Otherwise, you have to do your chapter plus a random one that you won't need to do a presentation on. Here are the assigned chapters and groups (which I slightly changed) again:

  1. Aishwarya, Sanjana -> Chapter 1 and Chapter 14 (don't do practice test and matrices for this chapter)
  2. Christine, Akshara, Julia -> Chapter 2 (this chapter is perhaps the most important b/c it applies to all problems not just Geometry)
  3. Vivian, Alice -> Chapter 4 and Chapter 5
  4. Jeffrey, Jacky, Mihir -> Chapter 6
  5. Maya, Julianna -> Chapter 8
  6. Adiyan, Vignesh, Minhoo -> Chapter 9
  7. Anindit, Christopher -> Chapter 10
  8. Melinda and Lucy -> Chapter 11
  9. Allan, Ming, Stephanie -> Chapter 12
Random Chapter:
  1. Aishwarya, Sanjana, -> Chapter 9
  2. Christine, Akshara, Julia -> Chapter 12
  3. Vivian, Alice -> none
  4. Jeffrey, Jacky, Mihir -> Chapter 2
  5. Maya, Julianna -> Chapter 11
  6. Adiyan, Vignesh, Minhoo -> Chapter 4
  7. Anindit, Christopher -> Chapter 8
  8. Melinda and Lucy -> Chapter 5
  9. Allan, Ming -> Chapter 6

Mathcounts Resources Blog Post

For this blog post I won't separate you by group. All I want you to do is list some sources (books and/or websites) that you find most helpful. I want you to list your Top 5 Math sources. At least one has to be a book while at least one has to be a website. If it is a website, then just copy and paste the link. For books, just write the title. If you choose big websites (i.e. Art of Problem Solving), I want you to list specific sub sections of the website (you can count multiple sub sections as different sources). This should not take more than a few minutes so I expect everyone to finish by Wednesday 10:00 pm.

Mathleague Competition Group 2 Post

For this week's blog post, I want everyone to understand how to solve ALL of the problems from the competition you had last Saturday. For those of you who didn't attend the competition, you have an additional homework of solving all the problems on all the tests. This post is due at 3:00 pm by Wednesday, November 23rd. I know this deadline is somewhat early but you have no school so you can devote more time for this. Just for convenience, I am labeling the Sprint round problems 1 - 30, the target round problems 31 - 38, and the team round problems 39 - 48. In addition, each student this time has a "buddy" who will solve nearly the same problems. Pairs of buddies are divided by a space. The first "buddy" to post on the blog will do a regular post while the second "buddy" will have to post and include critiques to his/her partner's solutions (if any). By the way, even if you can't attend the meeting, this blog post is still do and I will check it. For Group 2, there will be 2 "trios."

Minhoo : 1, 13, 19, 25, 31, 37, 43
Gautham : 2, 13, 19, 25, 31, 37, 43
Jeffrey: 2, 13, 19, 25, 31, 37, 43

Aishwarya : 3, 14, 20, 26, 32, 38, 44
Akshara : 4, 14, 20, 26, 32, 38, 44

Mathcounts Group 2 Blog Post

For this blog post, every member of Group 2 will be required to post a solution to certain problems on the page that says "Ten Essentials" to this blog post. The link is http://www.agmath.com/media//DIR_57727/10$20Lessons.pdf. I made Group 1 do all of these problems but you need to just do the assigned problems. Try to put all the assigned problem solutions in one blog post. Make these solutions easy to understand so everyone in group 2 can fully understand every one of these 50 problems. These problems will be due on Wednesday, November 16th by 10:00 p.m. I will be checking these thoroughly and will give NO snacks for the members of Group 2 who doesn't do this blog assignment and this time I mean it. For those who do all the problems they are assigned and the effort seems apparent, this will be an easy way to earn double snacks.

Here are the problems assigned to each person. To differentiate problems of different pages with the same number, I am using the position of the problem (e.g. Problem # 3 on page 5 will be labeled as 23):

Vignesh : 1, 15, 29, 43
Adiyan : 2, 16, 30, 44
Melinda : 3, 17, 31, 45
Geonil : 4, 18, 32, 46
Shivam : 5, 19, 33, 47
Mihir : 6, 20, 34, 48
Minhoo : 7, 21, 35, 49
Aviral : 8, 22, 6, 50
Sanjana : 9, 23, 37
Julia : 10, 24, 38
Akshara : 11, 25, 39
Lucy : 12, 26, 40
Jeffrey : 13, 27, 41
Gautham : 14, 28, 42

During Thursday and Friday, look over the solutions that everyone puts on the blog, not just yours. Remember that all the problems are due on paper during this week's meeting on the 18th.
